THE STRUCTURES OF THE HIP JOINT
The hip joint is the biggest joint in the body which is supported by large muscle and tendon groups. The hip joint is composed between rounded head of femur(thigh bone)and aceta bulum(pelvic bone) which forms the socket of the joint. The ball-and-socket structureof the joint allows the femur flexion-extansion,in and out rotation and circumduction movements.
WHAT ARE THE CAUSES OF HIP DISORDERS
The most common wear off in the body is the hip joint. It can be seen at any age and it is caused by varius reasons.
-Chidhood disorders ( Legg-perthes,Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis etc)
WHICH GROUP OF PATIENTS SUFFER HIP INJURIES?
Mostly in aged people, but it can be seen in every age. Heavy labuor, traumas, intensive sports make the risk groups.
-Imaging procedures (X-Ray,MR,CT scan)
WHAT ARE THE MOST COMMON HIP DISORDERS?
Femoro acetabular Impingement (Hip joint impingement)
It is known as degeneration of the hip joint.
The joint surface is protected with cartilage which protects the joint from rubbing. In arthritis the cartilage becomes degenerated or destructed. This causes limitation and pain in the joint. It is mostly seen in patients over the age 55.
Degeneration of the cartilage due to trauma
Chronic and incorrect weight-bear to the hip joint.
The most prominent symptom is pain. There is wide spread pain in hip, groin and thigh. In the progressing period there is also pain during rest.
Stiffness and tightness in the hip joint.
Limitation of joint motion.
Limitation in daily activities (walking, climbing stairs, sitting positions)
The goal is; relieving pain, increasing and protecting the range of motion and strenghtening of hip muscles.
Short wave radiation
In case of failure to these remedies, surgical intervention must be considered.
AVN is defined as cellular death of bone components due to interruption of the blood supply;resulting in bone destruction.
Long-term corticosteroid intake.
At the beginning there is no complaint. In the later period there is pain in the hip, groin or thigh.Weight bearing activities like standing and walking becomes difficult.
Imaging methods (X-Ray,MR,CT scan)
Consevative measures include limited weight bearing with crutches or canes. The patient must abstain from pain-inducing activities.
Medical therapy for pain must be given
In the initial period, favourable physiotherapy agents (Magneto therapy,Compex etc)can be beneficial.
PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma)therapy are adviced.
In the advanced period of AVN surgery may be required.
